"Ok for beginers or newbies" 2008-07-28
By Joseph Zimmerman (San Pablo, Ca. United States)
This book will be ok if you know nothing about the tattoo world and are interested in it. Just scratches the surface of everything about tattooing. Fast easy read but don't buy it for pictures. I agree with "not to sure" post.

 "Tattoo Review" 2007-01-03
By Angel x (Sydney, Australia)
This book is extremely informative, eye-opening & interesting for someone thinking about getting a tattoo. I was very happy with my purchase of this title and have such a more indepth & greater understanding of what is involved with tattooing.

Great buy!

 "for beginners only?" 2006-02-06
By Jim Pulizzi (Chicago, Il)
this book is very very fundamental. the black and white photos are small and pretty useless and the color shots could be better.

better books are available

 "not what i expected" 2004-06-17
By (seattle wa)
im a big fan of body art. i read and research alot about it. i also have four tattoos of my own and plan on getting more. i even dated a tattoo artist for a short period of time. i hung out at the tattoo shop every day and was around 5-10 artists at a time every day. i know my stuff. but by no means am i out writing a book on tattoos.

with that said.

this book was not the "total tattoo book" i expected. it mostly told me stuff i already knew, had bad pictures, and talked way to much about her personal experiences. i was bored and even skipped sentences at times just to finish it. but i did finish it out of respect for the author and give her two stars.

1 star for her efforts
1 star because its about tattoos

 "A Must Read 4 Tat2 Lovers" 2004-04-06
By M. Negron (New York, NY USA)
This book was hard to put down, even though I had homework to do. It has a wide variety of categories explained in plain english for newbies w/ pics. The center has a nice layout of color and b/w photos. It also has a partial directory of tattoo artists in each state (where legal or not).

"Sailor Jerry" Collins of Honolulu, Hawaii, is arguably the greatest tattoo artist of the 21st Century. His best-known contributions are the now classic designs . . . fat round roses, plump pin-ups, and scathing military/political cartoons. Now, in a second volume, more of his great stencils are reproduced. Hand-cut, hundreds of basic line works are printed here for the first time. The pages are perforated to make it easier for today's tattoo artist to display the work of this master.

 "Nice stencils." 2008-02-10
By David Velcek (Geelong, VIC., Australia)
A good source of very nice Sailor Jerry Stencils from the man who in my opinion did the best traditional tattoo flash ever.

Not as good as the now difficult to get Sailor Jerry Tattoo Flash books (volumes 1 and 2), which give a better of idea of this man's talents drawing flash. It has some extra stencils of things not in those books, so it is well worthwhile.

 "INCREDIBLE Stencils " 2007-12-13
By Christopher Smith (Gaithersburg, Maryland)
This book is front to back line flash. It is full of some of the greatest tattoos of all time. I like that every page front and back are full of stencils. And all the pages are perforated so they can be taken out and used for the shops wall. Great buy....

 "Great reference point" 2007-04-24
By K Adamson (Australia)
This is a solid collection of one of the most influential tattoo artists of our time; Sailor Jerry has shaped and inspired so many people out there.

A great addition if you plan on creating ideas for your next piece or just as a reference point.

 "Great Stencils!!!" 2007-01-18
By Jeffrey Johnson (TwinCitiesFrozenHell)
These are great tattoo's and really help if you are designing your own sleeve!

 "SJ tattoo collection" 2006-02-25
By Michelle Calhoun (midwestern USA)
I love this book! It is so nice to see a collection of historic tattoo stencils from such an important figure in American tattoo history!

 "Written by a kid?" 2008-09-23
By Eddie Scheidler
What a joke this book is. You can find all of the designs on the internet for free! They are very basic, and there are only a few examples for the tribes they list. They don't even get specific with any of the tribes, they just use "South American Tribes, European Tribes, African Tribes," etc... It's all just very basic info, so beginner that you can find it all online for free with no problem. DON'T BUY. Trust me.

 "Tribal Tattoos" 2008-05-08
By Just gettin by (New Mexico USA)
This book is very informative as to the history of tribal tattoos. If you want to have a tribal tattoo and actually want to be able to tell people what it means, this is the book for you.

 "Interesting book" 2004-05-31
By Nick Maassen (Albers, Illinois United States)
It's light in information, but interesting nonetheless. It has black and white drawings of various tribal tattoos. It also seperates them into sections (by tribes) and gives basic information on each tribe, along with a basic overview of Tattoos in general.

I bought the version with the body paints, which I wouldn't suggest. It's awfully gimicy.
